RIGHTON.Another of the early residents ofthe Narracoorte district, and one whohad lived here for about half a cen-tury, in the person of Mr. GeorgeBrighton, passed away at his homenear Narracoorte on March 3 in his84th year. The deceased, who waswell-known and respected in theSouth-East, and had many friends inthis part, was born at Prospect, SouthAustralia, in 1852. He came to PortMacDonnell in 1856, and spent hisearly years in that part of the South-East, having learnt the trade of abaker. In 1877 Mr. Brighton wasmarried to Miss Mary Corbell, theybeing the first couple to be married inthe Allandale church after it wasbuilt. His wife survives him.The deceased worked on theconstruction of the Kingston jetty,and was the first to cart a load ofwheat from Port Brighton to PortPirie, in the northern part of theState. He had lived in the Narra-coorte district for 48 years. Therewas a family of ten—seven daugh-ters and three sons, viz., Flora May(Mrs. G. Munn. of Goodwood), Carrie(Mrs. W. J. Simpson, of Narracoorte),Ethel (Mrs. G. Gillies, of MurrayBridge). Bessie (Mrs. V. G. Hansen,of Goodwood), Bertha. (Mrs. C. R.Butler, of Narracoorte), BeatriceMrs. S. J Lennard, of Narracoorte),Gertie (Mrs. K. Baudinette, of Cole-nine. Vic.); and Messrs. G. Brighton(Echuca), Percy and W. (Narra-coorte). There are also 58 grand-children, and 31 great grandchildren.The funeral took place on Wednes-day. March 4. when the remains ofthe deceased were laid to rest in theNarracoorte cemetery, the cortegecomprising a large number of rela-tives and friends. The Rev. J. J. Kil-martin conducted the service at thegraveside, and Messrs. Plait Bros,were in charge of the mortuary ar-rangements.
