MR. W. G. PANNELL.
After an illness extending over only
a few days Mr. William G. Pannell died
at his residence off Penola-road, on
Tuesday, when both surprise and regret
were expressd. The deceased was born
at North Adelaide in 1857, and was thus
in his 66th year. He was a son of the
late Mr. George Pannell, of Woodlands,
Mount Gambier, who was in the early
days a Government architect, and
supervised the erection of many of the
public buildings in the town. The late
Mr. Pannell, who was educated here,
spent practically his whole life at
Mount Gambier. The deceased gentle
man was a noted judge of horses, and
possessed few equals in the South-East.
Cosequently his services were frequent-
ly in demand as judge at shows. His
health began to fail about a year ago,
but he was always bright and cheerful,
and his end came as a shock to his
many friends. The deceased was twice
married. His first wife (nee Miss
Annie Fidler) predeceased him, but his
second (formerly Miss Eliza Harfull)
survives. There were three sons by
the first marriage--Messrs. Alf Pan-
nell (Wandilo), George Pannell (Staw-
ell), and Leslie Pannell (Hamilton,
Canada), and one son (Norman Pan-
nell) by the second. The deceased's
brothers are Messrs. Harry Pannell
(Adelaide), James Pannell (Sydney),
and Ernest Pannell (Melbourne), and
there is one sister, Miss Alice Pannell,
of Adelaide. The funeral took place on
Wednesday, when the Rev. G. T.
Arthur, M.A., officiated at the grave
side.
