MARTIN TILKAThe tragic death of Martin Tilka, atthe age of 72, which occurred oppositeMr Cook's blacksmith shop on Monday last, removes another of Kangaroo Island's old residents. The deceased, who was proceeding fromKingscote to his home in CygnetRiver in a dray had to stop at MrCook's for a parcel, and drawing offthe side of the road the wheel of thevehicle ran into a small washout andhe was thrown head foremost on tberoad. Those that saw the accidentimmediately ran to his assistance, butlife was extinct, his neck being brokenin the fall. Deceased had been aresident of the Island for about 32years, and during that time had livedat Cygnet River, engaged in fruitgrowing and farming pursuits. Hewas a native of Germany and prior toarriving in this country had seenactive service in the Franco Prussianwar. Tbe remains were interred inthe Kingscote Cemetery on Wednesday last, Rev. Turton Longmanofficiating at the graveside.
