A very old resident, Mrs. James Gates, died
in Port Lincoln on Monday last, June 10,
at the age of 78 years, and was buried, at
Happy Valley cemetery yesterday. Mrs.
Gates arrived in the colony in November,
1848, in the merchant vessel Bussora,
Captain Spencer Edwards, and came to
Port Lincoln in February, 1850. She has,
left three children—Mrs. W. Argent, Mrs.
T. Simes, and Mrs. D. Murdy - 24 grand
children, and 4 great-grandchildren.
