Mrt. Christianna Vorwerk.-A resident of
the Mount Gambier district for 52 years
died yesterday morning, when Mrs. Christ-
ianna Vorwerk passed away at the resi-
dence of her son-in-law, Mr. R. J. Ander-
son, Mount Gambier, after a short illness.
The deceased was the widow of the late
Mr. William Vorwerk, of Square Mile, far-
mer, and was born in Germany 74 years
ago. She came to Adelaide with her par-
ents in 1850, when she was 13 years of
age. With her parents she lived at Blum-
berg for a few years, and then she mar-
ried Mr. Vorwerk and came on with him
to Mount Gambier in 1859. The late
Mr. Vorwerk purchased a farm at Square
Mile, and there he and his wife lived the
remainder of their lives, and brought up
a numerous family. Of her ten sons
seven survive her, namely, Messrs. Ed-
ward, William, Harry, Gustav, Otto
Albert, and Charlie Vorwerk. Mr. Julius
Vorwerk died some time ago. Of Mrs
Vorwerk's daughters two survive, namely
Mrs. R. J. Anderson, Mount Gambier, and
Mrs. Fletcher, Adelaide. Miss Tilly Vor-
werk died several years ago. There are
18 grandchildren and one great grand-
child. The late Mrs. Vorwerk was of
kind and liberal disposition, and was
ever ready to help deserving cases of
need, either of persons or causes, and she
was highly respected by all who knew
her. She was a devoted supporter of the
Lutheran church. The funeral is announ-
ced by Mr. A. Studemann for this after-
noon at 2.30 o'clock.
