Mrs. J. J. Knbel -
Mrs. Johanna Juliana Kubel, who
died recently, was one of the first
settlers in the Point Pass district in
1868. Born in Prussia in 1848, she
came to Australia in 1859 with her
parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. D.
Schulz. After some years' residence
at Neukirch, near Stockwell, they took
up land at Point Pass. For several
years iney walked seven miles to
church at Tarnma, then Friedrichs-
walde. She married Mr. Samuel Kubel
in 1872. In 1881 they started farm-
ing in Bundey. In spite of bad sea
sons and many privations, they car-
ried on till 1907. when they retired to
Point Pass. Mr. Kubel died in 1926.
Mrs. Kubel then lived for some years
with a married daughter until a severe
illness compelled her removal to
Eudunda Hospital, and eventually to
Magill, where she died. She left one
son, five daughters, 21 grandchildren,
two great-grandchildren, three sisters,
and three brothers. One son and
daughter predeceased her.
