h Mengersen, whodied on Monday, was one of the small bandof German settlers who arrived in theforties and fifties, and who did so much toassist in the early pioneering work of theState. Mr. Mengersen was bom in Bremenon October 24, 1831. After receiving agood education he left his native land in theship Wandrahm, and arrived in South Aus-tralia in 1854. He settled at Lobethal,where for a quarter of a century he carriedon a general storekeeper's business, and wasfirst postmaster. For many years he hadresided at Kensington. He left two sons(Mr. Henry Mengersen, auctioneer, ofPalmer, and Mr. Rudolph Mengersen, ofBurnside), six daughters (Mrs. WilliamChristoph, of Lobethal; Mrs. A. Kasper, ofEast Adelaide; Mrs. George Kreusler, ofMedindie; Mrs. William Knick, of Broome,Western Australia; and the Misses A. andM. Mengersen), and 11 grandchildren.
