OBITUARY

MRS. J. L. SEMMLER
The death occurred suddenly
on Thursday morning last of
Mrs. Johanna Lydia Semmler,
widow of the late G. A.
Semmler, at the age of 72 years.
On that day many friends and
relatives had asembled at deceas-
ed's home, "Kiewa," Bearbong,
and were preparing for a picnic
that afternoon. Mrs. Semmler.
had enjoyed a good breakfast
and was quite cheerful. Although
not actually going to the picnic
herself, Mrs. Semmler was keen-
ly interested in the preparations.
She was noticed to sway, and
a protecting arm was quickly
extended, preventing a fall. On
being taken inside it was found
she had passed away.
The late Mrs. Semmlelr was
bom at Wodonga. where she
resided until her marriage with
the late Mr. G. A. Semmler.
They then moved to Temora and
in 1907 came to Gilgandra and
settled down at "Kiewa' at .the
beginning of 1908. In the inter-
vening years the family became
widely known and respected, and
neighbours and friends were a!-
ways assured of a hearty wel-
come 0n visiting the homestead.
In the early days of Gilgandra,
when the town boasted a F. and
S. Carnival instead of an annual
Show, the deceased took an ac-
tive part in public affairs, as her
late husband was a staunch sup-
porter of the carnival, and sub-
sequently the show. However,
on the whole, deceased devoted
her life to her home and family.
Deceased is survived by the
following family: Mr. E. E.
Seimmler (Morahmee, Gilgandra),
Mr. Desmond Clarence Semmler
("Kiewa" recently discharged
from the AIF), Mr. Ron Sem-
mler ("Elmore" and Mrs. G.
Rouse ("Yarrandale," Beairbong
Road).
Mrs Hanckel, Womboyne Street.
Gilgandra, is a sister. A sister
and brothsr reside at Albury.
The funeral on. Fridäy morn-
ing was largely attended. A ser-
vice was conducted at the Luth-
eran Church by. Rev. Echermaun
(Forbes), who also officated at
the graveside in the. Lutheran
portion of the Gilgandra cemet=
ery.
Funeral arrangements were car-
ried out by Mr. A.. H. Ross.
