 Biography

   Little is known about John Mouat.  He is presumed to be the John Mouat son of Robert Mouat and Janet (nee Irvine) who was batized in Northmavine on 30 June 1776.  However, evidence for this is wholey circumstancial.  
    John Mouat married Elizabeth Williamson in Northmavine on 8 December 1799.  Elizabeth was the daughter of John Williamson and Mary (nee Ramsay).  She was baptized in Northmavine on 31 October 1773.
    John and Elizabeth had at least three children:  Mary (b ca 1800), Arthur (b 10 February 1812) and James (b August 1813)  Other potential children appearing in the Northmavine parish records are Charles (b ca 1814) nd Elizabeth (b ca 1818)
    No record of John's death has been located.  Elizabeth appears to be a widow at the time of the 1841 census.  Following the departure of Arthur she appears to have resided with her daugter Mary and husband John Manson and their family.
    Elizabeth died in Isbister, Northmavine on 10 Jul 1862 aged 89.
