The Fitzjames
of 1206/1307 tons (om/nm) of timber construction was
built at Richibucto, New Brunswick in 1852 by John James
Jardine. In 1853 she was sold to Pilkington and
Wilson (later HT Wilson and Chambers, owners of the
White Star Line). 3 Oct 1855 - Dec 1855 from Southhampton to Port
Adelaide On 24 Jan 1866 she set sail from Liverpool enroute to Melbourne. On 14 Feb 1866 she put into Lisbon after springing aleak and was declared unseaworthy on arrival in Melbourne. The Fitzjames ended her days in Port Adelaide as a quarantine vessel and as a boys reformatory hulk. Sometime around the turn of the century she was broken up in the vicinity of Jervois Bay, an area which served as a ships graveyard in inner Port Adelaide until the early 1980's. * number of passengers in online list in the

MERCANTILE AND MONEY ARTICLE
Wednesday Evening.
The arrivals today are the Melanie from Mauritius, with 2200 bags
sugar ; the Theresa, from Liverpool, with general cargo ; and the
Fitzjames, from Plymouth, with immigrants.

SYDNEY LABOUR MARKET.
FRIDAY, 30th JULY.
My engagements this week have been of a general class for town
and country, at about the current rate of wages. As the roads
into the interior become passable, the orders for all descriptions
of
labour increase, and the demand from the pastoral districts are
beginning to press upon a market by no means overstocked with
very efficient and suitable hands. Under these circumstances, the
Fitzjames has just arrived from England, very opportunely, with
upwards of 450 immigrants of a mixed class. Wages among some
kinds of mechanics, are said to be, if anything, downward in their
tendency-on account of the great number still out of employment
In the city.

The Fitzjames has arrived with 450 immigrants of a suitable class
for agricultural purposes. Our demand for such description is
still large, and wages are supported ; thirty-five pounds being
the
ruling rate when able to plough, &c. Married couples, also in
request at the late reduction in their currency. Mechanics are
not much enquired for. Engagements have been made to some
extent, for shepherds, bullock drivers, and bushmen, for the
country districts. Female servants offer to take situations at
very moderate wages, for both in and out of Sydney.

ORDERS this week comprise principally farm servants, for which
there is a pressing demand. The arrival of the Fitzjames with
immigrants this week, will enable us to execute orders unavoid-
ably delayed. Married couples, for farm and house work, about
equal to demand. Bullock drivers, sawyers, brickmakers, and
gardeners, can meet with ready engagements. Female cooks are
in request. General house servants, housemaids, and nurse-
maids, are in excess of demand, and will readily hire for country
service. Wages remain about same as last.
