DEATH YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.
WOOL PIONEER.
A pioneer of the wool industry of the
west, Mr. James Waddell, passed away
yesterday afternoon at his residence,
Stanley-street, Bathurst. Although Mr.
Waddell had been under the doctor'scare for the past three weeks, no seri-ous developments took place until twodays ago, when his condition becamevery critical, and at an early hour yes-terday morning his case was hopeless.Death occurred at 4 o'clock in , theafternoon. Deceased, who was muchrespected, was of a very quiet dispose-tion, and since his arrival in Bathurst45 years ago, had been one of the city'smost esteemed citizens. Deceased was,at the time of his death, in his 72ndyear, being born in Cavan, Ireland, onJune 5, 1839. He came to Australiawhen six years of age, and received hiseducation at Redfern, where his parentsfirst settled. Some years afterwards hecame to Bathurst, and at once, becameassociated with the wool industry of thewest, then in its infancy. He foundedthe firm of Waddell Brothers, and up totwo years ago, when he retired, wasone of its most active members, hiswife predeceased him by 10 months.A family of one son and three daugh-tens are left to mourn the loss. Thedaughters are: Mrs. W. A. Benson(Brisbane), Mrs. J. L. Taverney (Al-bury), and Miss S. Waddell (Bathurst).Mr. J. C. Waddell, of Bathurst, is theonly son.The. funeral takes place thls after-noon.
