There passed peacefully away this morning, at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr Robert Airey (wrote our Orange correspondent last night), the relict of another highly respected landmark in this district, in the person of Mrs James Gartrell, senior, who was in her 88th year. She was predeceased 16 years ago by her husband. Both natives of Cornwall, England, they arrived in New South Wales some 30 years ago, almost immediately settling in the Orange district, where they followed farming with considerable success and earning the respect of all whom they came in contact with. Deceased, who was very cheerful and able to get about up to a few days before her death, leaves a family of two daughters and seven sons to mourn their loss: Mrs Robert Airey (Orange), Mrs G D Stone (Wanganui, N.Z.), Messrs Richard (Orange), James (Dubbo), William Henry (Bathurst), Edwin and Frank (Sydney), Absalom (Bathurst) and Alfred Gartrell (Orange); also 55 grandchildren and 42 great grand-children. No doubt a large assemblage will be at the funeral this afternoon to do honor to her memory.
