James Kelly (1844–1904)101530
James Kelly left the Kapunda district of South Australia with his family for Germanton (Holbrook), New South Wales, about 1874 by bullock dray and horses. In 1879 he received a grant of land near Yerong Creek which he named 'Cambusdoon'.  As his sons married he gave them part of the estate.
When he died the homestead block was left to his wife. When she died it was sold and the money went to his daughters.

DEATH OF MR. JAMES
KELLY.
The death took place on Tuesday at
Cambusdoon Station, Yerong Creek, of
Mr. James Kelly, grazier and famer,
aged 60 years. Mr. Kelly about a year
ago contracted a severe attack of in -
fluenza from effects of which he
never seemed to regain a thorough res-
toration. His last illness extended over
the long period of three and half
months during which time he has had
the constant attendance of Dr. Cam-
eron and a trained nurse. About a
month ago he rallied somewhat but un-
fortunately the continuance of ill health af-
fected the heart and the direct cause of
death was heart failure. Deceased
was one of the best known gentlemen in
the Wagga district and amongst the
residence surrounding Yerong Creek,
there was no one more popular. Al-
though a man of quiet disposition per-
haps typical of the Scot, he carried with
him a wonderful amount of geniality
which secured him a very wide circle
of friends. He was born at Girvan,
Scotland on July 11th, 1844. In his
youth he emigrated to South Australia
and having settled down, he was in
1868, married to Miss Mary Isabella
Snodgrass, by whom he had a large
family. After sixteen years residence
in the sister colony, he arrived in New
South Wales and he has lived in the
State for the past twenty five years dur-
ing which time by the careful manage-
ment of his station he required a con-
siderable amount of wealth. He had
the pleasure during late of seeing some
of his sons settle down in their own se-
lections and some of his daughters have
been comfortably married. Miss Mary
Kelly is now the wife of
Mr. Rowland Love, station man-
ager and Miss Annie Kelly the wife
of Mr. C. Adams. There are four other
daughters and four sons one of whom is
at school in Sydney. Deceased identi-
fied himself closely with public move-
ments at Yerong Creek and in a wider
sphere took a prominent and honourable
part, first as a member of the Pastures
and Stock Protection Board, then as
a member of the Rabbit Board, and as
? present ? of his important
? ?, the Pastures Protection
Board. At last election, however. Mr.
Kelly found that his health could not
stand the strain of work, and to the
? ? of many, he ? ?
a life of public duty in which he had
achieved marked success. His love for
his native Scotia was a real thing and
his occupancy of the Vice-Presidency
of the Wagga Caledonian Society ever
since its promotion was no synecure with
him. He was ever ready with ?
and financial assistance ? ?
precious traits of character which made
Caledonia so dear to him, and his loss
will be regretted by the members of
the Society as well as a host of others.
The funeral took place on Wednesday
morning at the Yerong Creek Cemetery
