James Kelly (1844–1904)101836
James Kelly left the Kapunda district of South Australia with his family for Germanton (Holbrook), New South Wales, about 1874 by bullock dray and horses. In 1879 he received a grant of land near Yerong Creek which he named 'Cambusdoon'. As his sons married he gave them part of the estate.
When he died the homestead block was left to his wife. When she died it was sold and the money went to his daughters.

DEATH OF MR. JAMESKELLY.The death took place on Tuesday atCambusdoon Station, Yerong Creek, ofMr. James Kelly, grazier and famer,aged 60 years. Mr. Kelly about a yearago contracted a severe attack of in -fluenza from effects of which henever seemed to regain a thorough res-toration. His last illness extended overthe long period of three and halfmonths during which time he has hadthe constant attendance of Dr. Cam-eron and a trained nurse. About amonth ago he rallied somewhat but un-fortunately the continuance of ill health af-fected the heart and the direct cause ofdeath was heart failure. Deceasedwas one of the best known gentlemen inthe Wagga district and amongst theresidence surrounding Yerong Creek,there was no one more popular. Al-though a man of quiet disposition per-haps typical of the Scot, he carried withhim a wonderful amount of genialitywhich secured him a very wide circleof friends. He was born at Girvan,Scotland on July 11th, 1844. In hisyouth he emigrated to South Australiaand having settled down, he was in1868, married to Miss Mary IsabellaSnodgrass, by whom he had a largefamily. After sixteen years residencein the sister colony, he arrived in NewSouth Wales and he has lived in theState for the past twenty five years dur-ing which time by the careful manage-ment of his station he required a con-siderable amount of wealth. He hadthe pleasure during late of seeing someof his sons settle down in their own se-lections and some of his daughters havebeen comfortably married. Miss MaryKelly is now the wife ofMr. Rowland Love, station man-ager and Miss Annie Kelly the wifeof Mr. C. Adams. There are four otherdaughters and four sons one of whom isat school in Sydney. Deceased identi-fied himself closely with public move-ments at Yerong Creek and in a widersphere took a prominent and honourablepart, first as a member of the Pasturesand Stock Protection Board, then asa member of the Rabbit Board, and as? present ? of his important? ?, the Pastures ProtectionBoard. At last election, however. Mr.Kelly found that his health could notstand the strain of work, and to the? ? of many, he ? ?a life of public duty in which he hadachieved marked success. His love forhis native Scotia was a real thing andhis occupancy of the Vice-Presidencyof the Wagga Caledonian Society eversince its promotion was no synecure withhim. He was ever ready with ?and financial assistance ? ?precious traits of character which madeCaledonia so dear to him, and his losswill be regretted by the members ofthe Society as well as a host of others.The funeral took place on Wednesdaymorning at the Yerong Creek Cemetery
