A pioneer of the Western AustralianGoldfields recently passed away in Ade-laide at the age of 82 in the person ofMr. Robert G. Meinck.Born in South Australia, the lateMr. Meinck came to Western Australiain September, 1892, and. was in Yorkwhen news came through that Bayleyand Ford had discovered gold at Cool-gardie.He pegged a claim not far from Bay-ley's Reward, becoming a friend ofBayley.After a visit to South Australia,where he married, he returned to West-ern Australia in 1899 and and set up busi-ness at Boulder as a general merchant, the partnership then beingknown as Meinck and Piper.Five years later he retired frombusiness and purchased an estate atGreenhills, near York.Later he became interested in theYork Flour Mill became director andretained his interest in this businessuntil his death.
