John Pearce and Martha Mouat (Moad)
 
    Martha Mouat was born in Northmavine, Shetland Is on November 7, 1851, the daughter of Arthur Mouat and Martha nee Smith.  Martha was christened on 7 Jun 1851 in the Church of Scotland.  In 1861, Martha, then 10, accompanied her father, mother and sister (Robina Fordyce) to Australia aboard the Commodore Perry.  They arrived in Victoria from Liverpool in December 1861.

    Martha married John Pearce on 4 Mar 1873.  Charles ? officiated at the Wesleyan ceremony in Spring Hill, NSW.  On the marriage certificate their residence is given as Pretty Plains.

    John Pearce was born in Richmond, NSW on May 20 1847, the son of Charles Pearce and Catherine (nee Read).

    John and Martha farmed at Pretty Plains, NSW.  John and Martha had seven children;  Mary Ellen (1874-1941), Robina Glasson (1875-1960), Jonathan (1877-1958), Arthur (1880-1959), William Francis (1882-1950), Gilbert (1885-) and Samuel Henry (1889-1974).

John Pearce died in Millthorpe, NSW aged 84 on Oct ober 18th, 1925.   Martha also died in Millthorpe, NSW aged 87 on November 30, 1933.  Both are buried in the Methodist section of the Millthorpe cemetery.
