Biography

William Oates was born at Gunwalloe, Cornwall in 1763, the son of Christopher and Elizabeth (nee Pascoe) [1].  The second of a family of seven, he was christened on 31 July 1763 at Gunwalloe.  William appears to have moved to the Parush of St Keverne some time before his marriage to Millicent Shephard the daughter of Thomas and Grace Shephard in Gunwalloe on 28 July 1792 [2].  William and Millicent had ten chiildren, Millicent, William, Thomas, Ann, James, John, Christopher, Samuel, Ann Nancy and Elizabeth.  All were baptized in St Keverne.
William's occupation as recorded as blacksmith on his marriage record and in the St Keverene baptismal records (>1815).
The lives of William and Millicent's family can be traced through the St Keverne census data.
William died on 7 November 1836.  Millicent died in 1856.  Both are buried at St Keverne.
