OBITUARIES.

MRS. BARBARA STOLTENBERG.
The death occurred at her resi
dence, Maitland Street, Narrabri,
on Fnday, May 14, of Mrs. Bar
bara Stoltenberg, wife of the late
A. Stoltenberg, of Mount Pleas
ant, Narrabri. The deceased, who
was 75 years of age, was a very
old and esteemed resident of the
district, and carried on the estate,
with the aid of her sons, follow
ing the death of her husband some
thirty years ago. The property
was leased to her son, Frank, and
during the last ten years, the late
Mrs. Stoltenberg has resided in
Narrabri. She was the daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs. John
Stoltenberg, who were among the
early settlers of the Singleton
district renowned for the vine
yards which they established when
the wine industry was one of the
most flourishing of that period.
The family was also the first to
establish vineyards in the Narra
bri district, which they did
against the advice of experienced
growers, who assured them their
venture would not meet with
success, but enterprise brought
its reward. Old hands of the dis
trict will remember the splendid
vines which thrived on Mount
Pleasant and the adjoining pro
perty in the Stoney Creek area
for many years.
The late Mrs. Stoltenberg is
survived by five daughters and
five sons: Mrs. G, Wurzbach and
Mrs. H. Lindley (Sydney), Mrs,
W. O'Connor (Newcastle), Mrs. O.
Gordon and Mrs. K. McLennan
(Narrabri); Sons: Hands, Albert,
Arthur (Mudgee), Frank and
Merv. (Narrabri), The Rev.
Canon May conducted the burial
ceremony, which took place in
the Church of England portion of
the Narrabri cemetery.
