Obituary

Mr. G. Ferguson.
By the death of Mr. George Ferguson,
Of Claymore, Caltowie, the district has last
one of its oldest and most highly respected
residents (says our local correspondent).
The deceased was 74 years of age. He spent
his youth at Port Adelaide, and later was
engaged as a teamster in carting poles on
the overland telegraph line, and conveying
supplies to Blinman and other places in the
far north. In April, 1871, he selected a
farm in the Hundred of Caltowie, and had
resided there ever eince. Mr. Ferguson
was perhaps best known from his connec-
tion with the Farmers Union, of which he
was one of the founders and a director for
32 years. He was also a Vice-President
of the Belalie Agricultural Society, and

for many years a successful exhibitor and
judge of draught stock. For a number of
years he was Councillor for the western
ward. Mr. Ferguson was a member of the
Victoria Masonic Lodge, Jamestown, for
40 years. He was a liberal supporter of
the local Anglican Church, and all patriotic
movements during the war had his hearty
support. Mr. Ferguson, who was married
40 years ago, has left a widow, four sons
(Messrs. George, of Peterborough; Otto, of
Jamestown; David, of Peterborough; and
Alexander, of Jamestown) and three
daughters (Mrs. G Wilson, of Barunga
Gap, and Misses Edith and Isabel Fer-
guson, of Caltowie)
