Biography

William Ward    William Ward, the son of John Ward and Sarah (nee Locke) was baptised in Hythe, Kent on 22 Jan Jul 1822.  In 1826, The Ward Family, including William aged 4, arrived in Australia aboard the convict ship Chapman.  William's father was a member of the 3rd company of Royal Staff Corps which served as the armed guard on the voyage.  The Ward family settled in Parramatta, NSW.
   William married Sarah Robards at Wesleyan Methodist Church in, Parramatta on 6 Dec 1842.   The ceremony was performed by Edward Sweetman with Spencer Freeman and James Robards as witnesses,
  Sarah Robards was born in Sandhurst, Kent on 26 Sep 1824, the daughter of James Robards and Sarah (nee Chandler) .   She was baptized (Sarah Roberts) in the Wesleyan Church in Sandhurst on 14 Nov 1824.  Sarah had immigrated to Australia with her family on the Cornwall in 1839.
   The birth of William and Sarah's first, child, Sarah, was registered in Parramatta (14 Jun 1844), the births of the twelve others to follow, Elizabeth (23 Oct 1945), Mary Ann (20 May 1847), William Henry (13 Jan 1849), Emma Locke (2 Apr 1850), Martha (20 Oct 1851), James (27 Sep 1853), Samuel (29 May 1855), Clara (26 May 1857), Edith Orain (31 May 1860), Thomas Robards (5 Nov 1861), Eva (28 Aug 1864), and Harry (2 Sep 1866), were registered in Bathurst or Orange.
   William is described on his death certificate as a saddler.
   William died on 7 Feb 1870 at William St, Bathurst and was buried on 9th Feb 1870 in the Wesleyan Cemetary, Bathurst.  Sarah died on 15 Jan 1898 at Rankin St, Bathurst and was buried on 16 Jan 1898 next to her husband.

FUNERAL. The friends of Jas., Thos., and Harry Ward are kindly invited to attend the funeral of their late beloved mother (Sarah) to move from the residence of her daughter (Mrs C Brown), corner of Keppel and Rankin Streets tomorrow (Sunday) afternoon at 3 o'clock for the Wesleyan Cemetery Bathurst.
