Brief History

Hahndorf was established in Sections 4002, 4003 and 4004 of what is now the Hundred of Onkaparinga.  A majority of the original settlers were Prussian immigrants recently arrived on the Zebra.  The villiage was named after the captain of that ship, Dirk Meinerts Hahn.

Early Residents

A list of original settllers of Hahndorf (heads of family) is provided in Kavel's People [1].  A second list (spelling taken from list in South Australian Government Gazzette of 8 April 1841 [1]) relates to the issue of cattle brands some two years after settlement.  Most of the original settlers remain.
